Camping in Kenya offers you a real feeling of adventure especially when the nocturnal wildlife comes to graze in the campsites in the night. Most importantly, undisturbed by your presence.

What's more, in the evening sit around the African fire, crack those silly jokes or simply counting the days sightings. It is the perfect African safari set-up filled with the rich African sounds, the occasional lion roar or laughter of the hyenas.

 

Full itinerary

Day 1

Departure from Nairobi - Samburu
Depart Nairobi and drive northwards to Samburu Game Reserve via Mt. Kenya and Past Coffee plantations. Picnic lunch and game drive enroute viewing the unusual reticulated giraffe, Grevys Zebra, Gerenuk and the Somali Ostrich, all of which you will not see in other game parks.

Day 2

Samburu
Full day of game viewing in the park famous as the homeland of the semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen. Its also the home of the various species named above in addition to lions, cheetahs, leopards among others. Meals and overnight at the camp.

Day 3

Samburu - Lake Nakuru
Morning drive south towards Lake Nakuru National Park. Lunch at Nakuru before you proceed for an afternoon game drive in the Park. This is a shallow soda lake which inhabits more than a million flamingoes. The Lake also has a Rhino sanctuary which you will have good chances of meeting. Other animals to be seen here are lions, buffalos, waterbucks, warthogs and hippos. Dinner and overnight at your camp in the Park.

Day 4

Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara
You will spend the day at the Mara with  a late after-noon game drive.  This is the climax of all game viewing in Kenya and you will definitely have your share of viewing. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 5 & 6

Full day in Masai Mara
Morning and afternoon game viewing in the park.  Or an extra option of balloon safari early in the morning or visit masai village in the mid-morning. Later enjoy your afternoon game drive.  Meals and Overnight at Camp site.

Day 7

Masai Mara - Nairobi
Return to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.   End of budget camping in Kenya.

Health

Upon arrival you may be asked to provide your vaccination cards. It is highly recommended you have Yellow fever vaccines updated, as required for disease prevention. Kenya is a malarial country, and simple prevention measures are necessary. Insect repellants comes in handy. In addition consult your physician for best anti-malaria drugs for you.
